Passport information stays on your device

PassportKit uses the camera and NFC to read your passport on iPhone. It does not require an account, create a permanent passport history, automatically upload passport information or send app usage analytics.

Camera images and chip data are used temporarily during the attempt. Leaving or cancelling the reading journey clears displayed information and ends the attempt. The reader temporarily retains only what it needs to finish cancellation safely.

Understanding the result

Successful reading, data structure and authenticity are different. This beta does not verify passport authenticity and does not display a passport portrait.

Sharing a report is optional

After an attempt, you can preview a technical report. Document information is cleared before the preview. The report contains app/build and coarse operating-system versions, a broad device category, read mode, stage/outcome/cleanup status, four event counts and a duration range.

It contains no passport fields, pictures, raw chip replies, keys or device identifier. A copy is sent only when you choose to share and select a destination. The app does not preselect a recipient.

Reports received by support

We use reports to diagnose technical reading problems and improve document compatibility. We delete the report copies we hold within 7 days of receipt. You can request earlier deletion through the support email.

A message you send may include your email address and anything you add yourself. Do not send passport photos, machine-readable lines or screenshots containing passport information.

Shared copies and other services

Email and sharing services may process copies under their own practices. The app cannot retract a copy already sent, delete copies held by other recipients or erase TestFlight attachments. The seven-day period applies to report copies we hold for support.
